Texas Construction Owner Sentenced to 30 Months for Obstructing IRS Tax Collection on $1.4 Million Debt

October 29, 2026

David Stone, owner of Engineered Metals Company, a Texas roofing, siding and sheet metal business, was sentenced to 30 months in prison. Court documents state he willfully failed to pay over employment taxes collected from employees, triggering IRS collection efforts. Stone then stopped filing individual income tax returns and routed business funds to pay personal expenses such as child support and alimony to shield income from the IRS. These actions from 2013 through 2024 produced a total tax loss of approximately $1.4 million. He must also serve one year of supervised release and pay about $1,384,766 in restitution.
