Federal Indictment Charges Adams Morgan Club Owner in Methamphetamine Trafficking
November 3, 2026
A two-count federal indictment unsealed on November 3, 2026, in U.S. District Court in Washington charges Aman Mehari Weldemariam, 34, of the District of Columbia, with unlawful distribution and possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced. Weldemariam owns the Green Island Café and Club Heaven and Hell in Adams Morgan. He was arrested the morning of November 3 outside a residential apartment building in Northeast Washington, where, according to prosecutors, he had about a kilogram of suspected cocaine powder.
The indictment alleges he distributed more than 500 grams of methamphetamine on July 16, 2026, and again on Aug. 3, 2026; prosecutors say he distributed nearly eight pounds in total in controlled sales while on probation for prior drug convictions in 2017 (Fairfax County) and 2020 (Richmond County). Weldemariam made his first appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Moxila A. Upadhyaya and is being held pending a detention hearing on Wednesday, November 4. The case (26-cr-251) was investigated by the DEA and the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office. An indictment is an allegation; he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
